How to Create a New Promotion

Overview

Promotions lets you launch and manage all promotional campaigns across their delivery apps from one place. This article describes how you can create a new promotion from the Promotions tab in your Otter Business Manager. 

Process

  1. Log into your Otter Business Manager
  2. In the Apps dropdown menu, select Marketing.
  3.  Select Delivery App Promotions.
  4. Select Create promotion.
  5. Give your promotion an appropriate name that reflects the desired outcome.
  6. Select the storefronts you would like to run the promotion. 
  7. Choose the strategy you would like for this promotion.
    • Choose Automated if you'd like Otter to decide the best strategy for you.
      • Let Otter manage and schedule promotions for you. We will choose the best promotions to run according to your business goals and optimize them over time. You are able to choose from the % spend targets below:
          • 1-3%: Test third-party marketing with a conservative budget for a minor sales lift

          • 3-7%: Balances between growth and return on investment for an ideal steady-state strategy

          • 7-12%: Use to temporarily Boost your presence to beat the competition for visibility and growth

    • Choose Custom if you'd like to customize your promotions like offering free delivery or promoting specific menu items.
  8. Decide the Duration to keep the promotion active.
  9. Choose a day and time to customize the days and times the promotions should run.Screenshot 2023-12-29 at 5.28.36 PM.png
  10. Optionally, you can also set a weekly budget limit for this promotion.
  11. Save your promotion

 


Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Automated and Custom?
Choose Automated if you'd like Otter to decide the best strategy for you. Choose Custom if you'd like to customize your promotions like offering free delivery or promoting specific menu items. 

When does my promotion go live?
If your promotion dates are current then the promotion will go live automatically once you save it for the storefronts you've chosen. If the promotion date is scheduled for later the promotion will go live automatically on that date.

What do the promotion statuses active, paused, an inactive mean?
Promotions can have one of the following labels: 

    • ACTIVE: The promotion is live and promotions are being scheduled to storefronts. Eaters will see active promotions on the OFO page.
    • PAUSED: The promotion is paused either due to a user action, or the promotion has reached its allotted budget. This promotion would be active otherwise.
    • INACTIVE: The promotion has not yet started, or will be started in the future

What kind of promotions are the best? What promotions will help my business grow?

This can be hard to answer as it will vary, depending on the specifics of the restaurant.

We recommend using an automated promotion type as we automatically select, schedule, and optimize promotions to help you meet your business goals. Growth will create a promotion strategy aimed at maximizing revenue, and run more aggressive promotions to increase sales. Balanced will create a promotion strategy aimed at maximizing take home pay, creating a promotion strategy to increase profit.
