How to Update a Menu with Menu Management

Overview

With Direct Orders, Merchants can easily update the content and structure of their direct-to-customer menus. Otter Core and Pro users can update menus by contacting a Customer Success Manager with their requested changes. Self-Serve users can update menus themselves using the following process. 

Menu Updates for Otter Core and Pro Users

Otter Core and Pro users can update their menus by contacting an Otter Customer Success Manager with their requested changes. They can do so through the following channels:

Chat – 24/7 text support offered through the "Support" button on a user's Otter tablet. 

Phone – 24/7 voice support available by calling 1-704-396-8837

Email – Prompt email support (within 24 hours), available by completing this form

When contacting an Otter Customer Success Manager, Merchants should always include their restaurant's name, a list of requested changes, and their own contact information. 

Process

Menu Updates for Self-Serve Otter Users

Update Menus (Self-Serve Otter Users)
Step # Actions  Additional Info
1 Log into Otter Dashboard  
2 From the Apps menu in the top-left of the screen, select Menus  
3 Click on the menu that you'd like to update.   
4 Click the Overview tab in the selected menu's page.   
5 In the Overview section, click on the Edit Menu button. The Edit Menu button is marked with a pencil icon.
6 Select the Category, Item, Modifier Group, Hours, or Photos you'd like to edit.  You can find each of these options in their own respective tabs.  
7 After editing any part of your menu, be sure to click the Save button to save your changes. The Save button is blue with white text, and can always be found in the top-right of your  edit page. 
8 Once you are satisfied with your menu updates, click the Publish menu to make them public. Your menu has now been successfully updated! The Publish button is blue with white text, and can always be found in the top-right of your menu page. 

Update pricing by channel

1 Log into Otter Dashboard  
2 From the Apps menu in the top-left of the screen, select Menus  
3 Click on the menu that contains the item you'd like to update.   
4 In the selected menu, click on the item you'd like to edit.  Users can click the Items tab at the top of the page to view all of their items in one list.

A pop-up will open, select the action you want to perform:

  • Change price everywhere – to increase or decrease the items' default price by a certain amount

  • Change price per channel – to increase or decrease the items' prices by a different amount for each channel

7 You can choose to toggle between changing the % price or the $ fixed amount  
8 Click on “Change pricing” to update.  
9 Publish your menu so that the changes are reflected on all your channels

Select one or multiple items. The bulk bar will appear.

Click on “Price” in the Bulk bar

A pop-up will open, select the action you want to perform:

  • Change price everywhere – to increase or decrease the items' default price by a certain amount
  • Change price per channel – to increase or decrease the items' prices by a different amount for each channel

You can choose to toggle between changing the % price or the $ fixed amount

Update the price. If updating by a percentage amount, for certain currencies, you will have the option to round the final numbers.

 

:info: Option to round up is currently only available for menus in USD or CAD

 

💡 Tip: You can input negative numbers to bulk decrease the price of your items

 

Click on “Update pricing” to update.

Update the item availability

Check the checkbox next to the item that you'd like to mark as out of stock

Select from the following options:

  • Available - Keeps the item available for purchase and use
  • Unavailable today - Mark the item as out of stock until tomorrow
  • Unavailable indefinitely - Mark the item as out of stock until you manually reactivate it

Select Publish Availability to update the item for all delivery partners and direct orders

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do menu updates made in Otter apply to my other delivery apps?

A: Yes! As long as your other delivery apps are connected to Otter, menu updates will be applied to them without the need for further action. 

Q: Can I revert an update to my menu?

A: Yes! Otter Core and Pro customers can send a request to revert updates to their Customer Success Manager. Otter Self-Serve users can revert updates manually by following the process above. 

Q: How long does it take for menu updates to be published? 

A: Otter Self-Serve users should see their menu updates published instantly. Otter Core and Pro users can expect their menu updates to be published within 24 hours of making a request to a Customer Success Manager.
