Orders processed while in Offline Mode will have a cloud icon [Offline Mode Cloud] next to the order status indicating the order will be fully processed when the network connection is restored.

Key Features

  • Offline mode is automatically enabled for all Otter POS customers.
  • The ability to continue processing Credit Card and Cash Transactions.
  • When your POS terminal is unable to detect a network connection, it will begin storing orders in offline mode. A warning banner will appear on top of your screen letting you know your POS is currently in Offline Mode.
  • Orders will be automatically processed when you connect to a network again.
  • Offline orders are displayed with a cloud icon next to them in the order list until they have been uploaded and processed online. Once the order is processed, the cloud icon disappears.

What are the limitations of Offline Mode?

Online orders not accepted

  • Online orders cannot be accepted on Otter when a device is disconnected from the internet. This includes both auto-accepted orders and manually accepted orders. Online orders that are not accepted can lead to the temporary pause of a storefront by your online order provider.
  • A storefront can be unpaused directly from the POS at any time once the device is back online. This reopens the storefront, allowing users to place online orders.

New devices cannot be paired

  • You will not be able to pair new printers or card readers in Offline Mode.
  • Bluetooth or USB printers and card readers that have already been paired will continue to work.

Printers connected via wifi

  • Printers that are connected using a wifi or ethernet connection will not print orders during an internet outage.
  • Station tickets do not print when the device is in offline mode.
