Overview
The Devices App within the Otter Dashboard provides restaurant Admins with a centralized hub to view and manage all Otter-connected devices— including printers, card readers, and POS terminals.
In the Devices App, for Otter connected devices, you will be able to:
View devices & related device information
- Health status
- Connection signal
- Device IDs
- Model & brand information
Manage devices
- Add new devices
- Pair/Unpair devices
Add additional device information
- Name devices
- Device type
- Device photo
- Additional notes
Device Compatibility
At this time, the features for the Devices App are most compatible for Otter POS subscriptions.
If using a POS terminal other than the Otter POS terminal, limited information will show in the Devices App.
Devices Overview Page
To view or manage all your Otter connected devices, from the Otter Dashboard select Apps > Devices. This will give you a high level overview of all your devices per location and some quick actions.
You can filter your view by:
- Device Type
- System Health
- Locations
System Health
In the Overall device health column, you’ll see the device health summary for all devices at that location. In the System Health column, you’ll see the individual health status for each Otter connected device.
Device Health Status:
Health Status | Description |
Healthy | Device is paired and active |
Unpaired | Device profile has been created, but has not been paired with the POS terminal |
Inactive | Device was previously paired and has since been disconnected, but not deleted |

If a device shows as Unpaired, you can click the [Pair Device] button listed for that device to quickly repair.
Actions
By clicking the 3 dots under the Actions column, you can:
- View device details
- Pair/Unpair device
- Delete device
Creating a Device Profile
From the Devices Overview page, you can easily create a device profile. If you don’t yet have your device or have not yet paired your device, you can still create the device profile to get everything set up beforehand.
Follow the steps below to create a device profile:

Step 1
From the Device Overview page, click [Create a profile].

Step 2
Select [I have my device with me] or [Proceed] (if you do not yet have the device). Then select the location the device will be used.

Step 3
Name the device, then click [Create device].

Step 4
When you’re ready to pair your device, you can select the device profile from the Device Overview page and click [Pair device].
Pair Device
From the Devices Overview page, you can pair new devices by clicking the [+Pair device] button in the top right hand corner or re-pair devices by clicking the [Pair device] button next to the device listed.
You’ll just need to follow the prompt to enter the pairing number displayed on your device to finish pairing.
Device Details Page
By clicking on a device listed, you will be taken to the Device Details page.
There, you can see more information about that specific device, add device attributes, view other devices connected to that device, and take some actions on that item.

Device Information
In this section, you can:
- Upload an image for your device
- Name your device
- Leave notes for the device
- View device type
Click the pencil icon next to a field to make an edit or change.
Device Details
In this section, you can see:
- System health status: Healthy, Unpaired, or Inactive
- Device status: Whether the device is detected online or offline
- Connection signal: How strong the connection to the device is
- Model number
- Esper ID: The number a support agent may need to assist in troubleshooting your device
- Manufacturer
Connected Devices
In this section, you can see what other devices are connected to the device you’re viewing. For example, if you’re looking at a POS device details and you have a printer connected to your POS— you’d see the printer listed here.
You’ll be able to also see the health of the connected device and see more details or resolve issues for the connected device by clicking View Details -> under the connected device.
Permissions & Actions
Under Permissions, you will see the location for the device listed. You can click View and edit -> to make changes.
Under Actions, you can unpair or delete the device.
FAQs
- Currently, only Otter POS subscriptions will have access to all the Devices App features.
- For Otter POS subscriptions, there is no additional cost for this feature.
