Overview
The Order Number feature for Otter POS allows you to choose and adjust order numbering preferences.
You can choose:
- Sequential order numbering
- Randomized order numbering (default)
- Order number length
- Restart time for order numbers reset
- Customized order number suffix
Order numbers can help order communication between front and back of house operations, improve eater identification, and daily order flow.

Sequential Type for POS
Sequential order number type can be used to single POS or multiple POS if devices are part of a “mesh”— meaning the devices are connected to coordinate a shared sequence.
5 Enter number for Length— desired number of numbers to appear in an order number. 6 Enter the time of day you’d like order numbers to reset for sequential order number type.
This will not apply to Default order number types.
7 Click [Save] to confirm edits.
Customizing Order Numbers
Within the Otter Settings on your Otter POS, you can customize the letter characters of the suffix for order numbers. This can be used to give each POS terminal (if using multiple) a unique suffix to identify which POS an order came from.
Example:
Your restaurant has two POS terminals:
- POS 1 — main POS used to ring orders for dine-in
- POS 2 — used to ring to-go orders or take orders at a to-go window
The customized suffix for the order numbers can help identify which POS the order was placed at (shown below).
Edit Order Number Suffix
Follow the steps below to edit Order Number suffix on your Otter POS terminal.
Step Process Image 1 From the Otter homepage on POS, tap the profile icon > Settings. 2 Tap Orders from the side menu.
Scroll to Order Numbers section.
3 Enter Order Number Suffix desired for terminal.
Click [X] to save change.
Editing Order Number Suffix
Editing an order number suffix on a POS device will only change the suffix for that device. If you have multiple POS terminals, you will need to update the suffix on each terminal for unique identification or custom suffix.
