Creating a Loyalty Program

Overview

Otter Loyalty customers can configure and manage their Loyalty program within the Otter Dashboard. You can customize your Loyalty program by creating:

  • Amount-based Loyalty Program
  • Purchase-based Loyalty Program
  • Reward Redemption Options

Each option leaves room for you to create your own unique Loyalty program and different redemption options for eaters to choose from.

Amount-based Loyalty Program

For an amount-based Loyalty program, eaters will earn points based on the dollar amount spent per order at the restaurant. You can customize:

  • How many points are earned per dollar spent
  • Dollar value per point redeemed toward a discount on a future purchase

Steps to create an amount-based Loyalty program

1 From the Otter Dashboard, select Apps > Loyalty.

Select Brand(s) and Location(s) to include in Loyalty program.

Click [Next].

Name your Loyalty program.

*Optional*

Upload branding photo for Loyalty program.

Click [Next].

Customize branding “points” name.

Example: Points, Stars, etc.

Select Amount-based for earning type.

Enter amount of points to be earned per dollar spent.

Click [+Create reward].

Configure Reward Type.

Click [Create].

Note: This sets the ratio of points per discount amount for future purchases.

8 Click [Publish loyalty program] to publish for selected brand/location.

NoteSave as Draft
If you're not ready to publish your Loyalty program, you can save it as a draft. Simply "x" out of the Create Loyalty window at anytime— your Loyalty program draft will display on the Loyalty Program home page. Click back into the draft to edit and publish at any time. 

 


 

Purchase-based Loyalty Program

For a purchase-based Loyalty program, eaters will earn points based on just placing an order at the restaurant or for purchasing specific items. Otter customers can customize:

  • How many points are earned per order or specific item purchased
  • Dollar value per point redeemed for a discount towards future purchase

Steps to create a purchase-based Loyalty program

1 From the Otter Dashboard, select Apps > Loyalty.

Select Brand(s) and Location(s) to include in Loyalty program.

Click [Next].

NOTE: You can add multiple items/categories to earn points.

Create Reward Type

After you have set up how eaters can earn Loyalty rewards, you will need to create a reward— this is what eaters will be able to redeem their earned Loyalty points for.

You can choose to create a reward for:

  • Points towards dollar amount discount (‘points to cash’)
  • Order discount
  • Item discount
  • Buy X Get Y (BOGO)

Learn more about how to set up each reward type below.

  • Points to Cash allows eaters to redeem available Loyalty points for a dollar amount discount on their future order.

    1 Click [+Create Reward].
    2 Select Points to cash from drop-down Reward type.

    Enter Value per Point.

    InfoExample:
     If dollar value $0.10 is entered, a customer is eligible to earn $1.00 in reward points after spending $10. 

     

    Click [Create] to create the reward.

     

  • Order discount allows eaters to redeem available Loyalty points for a fixed or percent discount on their future order total.

    1 Click [+Create Reward].

    2 Select Order discount from drop-down Reward type.

    Choose Fixed or Percent under Type.

    Enter a fixed dollar amount or percentage for Discount Amount (the discount amount the eater will receive).

    Enter the amount of points needed to earn the reward.

    Click [Create] to create the reward.

     

  • Item discount allows eaters to redeem available Loyalty points for a fixed or percent discount on a specific menu category or item on a future order.

    1 Click [+Create Reward].

    2 Select Item discount from drop-down Reward type.
    3 Choose the menu category or item for the Discount item applies to.

    Choose Fixed or Percent under Type.

    Enter a fixed dollar amount or percentage for Discount Amount (the discount amount the eater will receive).

    Enter the amount of points needed to earn the reward. 

    Click [Create] to create the reward.

     

  • Buy X Get Y (BOGO) allows eaters to redeem available Loyalty points for a fixed or percent discount on a specific menu category or item when also purchasing a specified menu item on a future order.

    1 Click [+Create Reward].

    2 Select Buy X Get Y from drop-down Reward type.

    Choose the menu item or category that Buy item applies to.

    This is the item the eater must purchase in order to get the discount on another menu item or category.

    Choose the menu category or item that the discount will apply to under Select item.

    This is the item or category an eater will receive a discount on.

    Choose Fixed or Percent under Type.

    Enter a fixed dollar amount or percentage for Discount Amount (the discount amount the eater will receive).

    Enter the amount of points needed to earn the reward. 

    Click [Create] to create the reward.

Deleting a Loyalty Program

 

Published Programs

If a Loyalty program has been previously published, you can unpublish the Loyalty program by clicking the 3 dots next to the program and click Unpublish program.

Keep in mind, unpublishing a Loyalty program will not delete the program. It will still display in your programs to republish at any time but will not be available to eaters until republished.

 

Drafted Programs

If a Loyalty program is saved as a draft, you can delete the draft by clicking the 3 dots next to the program and clicking Delete program.

 


 

Troubleshooting

  • If you see "NaN" listed while trying to enter the amount for Points needed to unlock this reward field, try entering the amount without any commas, periods, or spaces— only use numbers. 

 


 

FAQs

  • Yes points can be manually added or subtracted from a customer profile within the Otter Dashboard. Learn more about how to adjust Loyalty points here.
  • No— Redeemed rewards cannot be used to cover taxes or service fees for a transaction.
  • Once you create a Loyalty program— you can share your program via QR Code flyers, direct link, or adding QR Code to order receipts.
