Tax Reports

Overview

To view data for taxes, you can find details in the Otter Dashboard in the following reports:

  • Sales Summary: To view first party tax information
  • Payouts: To view third party tax information

Check out the different ways to view the reports and tax information below.

 

  • Sales Summary
     

    Use the Sales Summary to view tax data for first party order data, including Otter POS, Kiosk, and Direct Online Orders.

    InfoLocating Tax Information
    You can locate tax data in the Tax Collected and Tax Remitted columns.
  • Payouts
     

    Use the Payouts report to view tax data for third party order data, including 3rd party POS integrated orders and delivery app orders.

    You can locate tax data in the Tax Collected, Tax Withheld, and Tax Remaining in the Account summary for a Transaction.

 


 

Viewing Taxes in the Sales Summary

You should use the Sales Summary report in the Financials page to view taxes for first party sales. First party sales includes data from Otter POS, Kiosk, and Direct Online Orders. 

Follow the steps below to view tax reporting for first party sales.

Steps to View Taxes in the Sales Summary

Go to the [Otter Dashboard]

Click the [Apps] dropdown

Select the [Analytics] app

2Click into the [Sales Summary] tab from the left options

Click into the [Order Details] view

Scroll to the right of the list view to see the following data points:

  • Tax Collected
  • Tax Remitted
4To export the data into a .CSV file, click the [Export] button at the top right of the report

To import the data into an Excel or Google Sheet:

  • Open a new Sheet
  • Click [File] > [Import]
  • Upload the .CSV file into the sheet

Click [Import Data]

To calculate the “Tax Total”, use the following fields to find the sum:

  • Tax Collected
  • Tax Remitted

The sum can be located at the bottom right of the sheet.

 


Viewing Taxes in the Payouts Report

Users should use the Payouts report in the Financials page to view taxes for third party sales, which includes 3rd party POS orders and delivery app orders. 

Follow the steps below to view tax reporting for third party sales.

Go to the [Otter Dashboard]

Click the [Apps] dropdown

Select the [Analytics] app

2Click into the [Payouts] tab from the left options

Click into a Payout to open up the transaction details view.

Navigate to the [Accounting Summary] section to view the following data points:

  • Tax Collected
  • Tax Remitted
4To export the data into a .CSV file, click the [Export] button at the top right of the report

To import the data into an Excel or Google Sheet:

  • Open a new Sheet
  • Click [File] > [Import]
  • Upload the .CSV file into the sheet

Click [Import Data]

  • Tax Collected
  • Tax Remitted

Tax Reporting Key Terms & Definitions

Key TermDefinition
Total TaxQuantity of transactions included in the payout.
Tax WithheldValue of taxes withheld for the store location.
Tax to OperatorValue of taxes paid by the operator.
Tax %Percentage of taxes paid by the operator.
Tax RemittedCollected tax money to the appropriate government tax authority.

 


FAQ's & Troubleshooting

  • When you enter the Taxes report in the Financials page, you will prompted to click a button to “Go to Sales Summary” to view their 1st Party Taxes OR to go to Payouts to view their 3rd Party Taxes. image-20250729-220254.png
