Getting ready to set up Geekland KDS hardware but unsure where to begin? This detailed guide covers each step of the installation process.
Whether it’s powering up the KDS, connecting cables, or securely mounting the system, the guide provides a seamless setup experience. Follow along, and everything will be up and running in no time!
Key Considerations
Before starting the setup, please note that Otter does not supply VESA mounts for the KDS. It is necessary to purchase and install a VESA-compatible mount at the desired location. To ensure successful installation and operation of the Otter KDS, make sure the following are in place:
- Access to a power source at each mounting point
- Stable network connectivity
- Pre-installed VESA-compatible mounts

Powering the KDS
The Geekland KDS devices support Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing them to be powered and connected to the internet using an ethernet cable. To ensure PoE support, use Cat5 or above ethernet cables.
For PoE setup, a PoE-capable switch or router is recommended. If the network device does not support PoE, consider using a PoE injector. Both Geekland models are compatible with the IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) standard, but Otter does not supply the ethernet cables.
Non-POE Alternative
If PoE is not available, a power source at the mounting point will be required. Connect the power cord to the bottom of the KDS screen to turn it on.
Connecting the KDS Ethernet
Ethernet Connection
The KDS features an ethernet port located at the bottom of the screen, which may have black tape covering it—simply peel it back. If using POE, the ethernet cable will both power the KDS and provide an internet connection.
Wi-Fi Connection
If an ethernet connection is unavailable, the KDS can connect via Wi-Fi. For optimal performance, ensure there are no steel, brick, or concrete partitions between the router and the KDS. Avoid using non-business-grade internet connections like cellular hotspots or phone tethering. To connect to Wi-Fi, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet.
Mounting the KDS
When choosing a mount for the KDS, select professional-grade models designed for demanding environments. Ensure the mount supports at least 15 lbs for 15.6” displays and 30 lbs for 21.5” models.
Both displays are compatible with 100×100 VESA, so opt for arm or articulating mounts with locking mechanisms to ensure stability during touchscreen use.
