Overview
Menu categories help organize your menu and allow eaters to quickly browse or locate items they are looking to order.
From the Menus App, you can:
- Create new categories
- Edit existing categories
- Assign categories per location and platform

Adding a Menu Category
Follow the steps below to add a new menu category:

Step 1
From the Otter Dashboard, select Apps > Menus

Step 2
Select the menu you’d like to edit.Go to the Categories tab.
Click the [+ Add category] button.

Fill out fields with category details.Learn about each menu category fields below.

Click [Save].

Step 5
Click [Publish] to publish menu updates.Select all locations and delivery channels you'd like to apply changes, then click [Publish menu].
Menu Category Detail Fields
Category Info
This section allows you to add the basic information for your menu category:
- Enter category name
- Enter category description
Items
Select from the drop-down what existing menu items will be shown under this category.

Appears In
Select what menus this category will appear on from the drop-down.
Assigned Locations
In this section, you can select Locations you’d like to add this menu category to by clicking Edit Details.
Offered On
Here, you can choose which platforms you’d like to show this menu category on by toggling the option ON or OFF for each platform listed. Otter will only publish the menu category to platforms toggled ON.

Yes— From the Categories tab, you can view and edit existing menu categories. To edit a category, just click on the category name, make any edits needed, and click [Save].
Publish Changes
Be sure to publish the menu to implement any changes made on selected platforms and locations.
- To delete a category, just click on the existing category name and scroll to the bottom of the Edit category window. Click [Delete].

Yes— To delete multiple categories at the same time, select all categories to delete from the Categories tab. Then click the [Delete] button at the bottom of the page.
