Overview
The Cash Drawer Transfer feature for Otter POS allows cashiers to move their assigned cash drawer between terminals without losing financial data.
Transferring a drawer makes sure that sales data remain linked to the user, rather than being tied to a single terminal. With this feature, cashiers can close their drawer at one device and reopen it at another, allowing for more flexible and efficient cash management.
Ending vs. Closing a Drawer
In the Otter POS Drawers app, cashiers have the ability to:
- End a drawer for a specific shift
- Close a drawer to close out their cash transactions for the business day
Check out the difference between closing and ending a cash drawer.
-
Ending a Cash Drawer
Select an Active drawer and use the [End] button to end a specific shift’s cash data tracking. Users can re-start the drawer during the next shift.Closing Drawer for the Day
Ending a drawer is not “closing out the drawer” for the business day. If you have “ended” a drawer, you will still need to “close” the drawer at the end of the day. -
Closing a Cash Drawer
After ending a drawer, enter Actual balance and confirm balance to close out all cash transactions for the business day. Once a drawer has been closed, it cannot be re-opened, only edited.
Transferring a Cash Drawer
If a cashier has completed cash transactions at one POS terminal and needs to move the cash data to another POS terminal, they can do so by transferring their cash drawer.
Follow the steps below to transfer a cash drawer to another Otter POS terminal.
Step Process Image 1 Enter cashier or supervisor PIN.
Tap Cash app from the Otter homescreen.
2 Select the drawer you would like to transfer (listed as This device). 3 Select the [End]. 4 From another POS terminal, enter PIN.
Tap Cash app from Otter POS home screen.
5 Select the your ended drawer from the list under the Active tab. 6 Tap [Resume here] > [Confirm resume here].
Your drawer is now transferred.
This can also be used when needing to restart a drawer for a new user to ring on (if not assigned to a specific user).
Example:
Cashier A has completed their morning shift and ended the cash drawer.
Cashier B has just started their day shit and needs to re-open the cash drawer on that same terminal Cashier A was using to continue tracking cash for that business day.
