Adding Menu Photos

Overview

From the Otter Dashboard, you’re able to add, edit, and manage photos for your menu(s) for different platforms in one place. 

Within the Menus App, you can:

  • Manually add menu photos
  • Importing existing menu photos
  • Assign menu photos
  • Enable Auto Photo Enhancement
  • Edit menu photos
  • Manage a menu's photo collection

 

Automatic Photo Enhancement Setting

Within the Menu Settings, there is an option to enable the Automatic Photo Enhancement feature. 

When enabled, this allows improvements to be made to your menu photos automatically to increase photo quality— saving you time and ensuring the best possible photos for your menu.

If you receive an sizing or resolution error for your menu photo, learn how to resolve the issue here. Keep in mind, some platforms do have photo requirements that need to met before using a menu item photo for that platform.

 


 

Manually Add Menu Photos

Follow the steps below to manually add new menu item photos.

1 From the Otter Dashboard, click Apps > Menus.

Select the menu you’d like to edit.

Go to the Photos tab.

Click the [+ Add photos] button

Upload photos by drag & drop or clicking to select files.

This feature allows you to upload a whole folder of photos into the Photo library, have Otter suggest which menu item each photo belongs to, review and adjust, then apply them to the menu in a single action.

Once uploaded, click on the photo to edit, rename, & assign to menu items.

Click [Publish] to publish menu updates.

Select all locations and delivery channels you'd like to apply changes, then click [Publish menu].

Once a menu photo has been added, it will be added to that menu’s photo collection in the Otter Dashboard.

InfoPhoto Requirements

To upload photos in the Otter Dashboard, images must be:

  • At least 1400 x 800px
  • PNG or JPEG file format

If an image doesn’t follow these requirements, you will see a corresponding error message while trying to upload. Learn how to resolve photo size requirements here.

 


 

Importing Existing Menu Photos

If you have an existing menu with menu item photos and photo assignments, from the Otter Dashboard, you’re able to efficiently import those photos and assignments.

Follow the steps below to import existing menu item photos to your menu in the Otter Dashboard.

Steps to import existing menu photos:

1 From the Otter Dashboard, click Apps > Menus.

Select the menu you’d like to edit.

Go to the Photos tab.

Click the [Import photos] button.

Select the location and platform you want to import menu photos from.

Note: Be sure to check Assign photos to items automatically to automate photo assignment.

Once uploaded, review the imported menu photos.

Click on the photo to edit, rename, or assign to menu items (if not automatically assigned).

Bulk Upload & Assign Menu Photos

Bulk Menu Photo Upload and Assignment lets you upload a whole folder of photos into your Photo library, have Otter suggest which menu item each photo belongs to, review and adjust suggestions, and then apply them to the menu in a single action.

Follow the steps below to bulk upload and assign menu photos.

Steps to auto-assign menu photos:

Select the menu you’d like to edit.

Go to the Photos tab.

Click the [+ Add photos] button

2 Drag & drop photo(s) to upload.
3 Click [Auto-assign to items].

You can unselect or select the suggested assignments. 

Click [Pick from menu] to manually assign to a different item.

You can select multiple menu items to apply that image.

5 Click [Apply to menu] to save selections.  
6 Always publish your menu to apply changes to all selected platforms.

Menu Photo Collection

Once you have uploaded photos for your menu, you will be able to see all your photos for that menu from the Photos tab. You will be able to see assigned and unassigned menu photos but can filter between the two for a more specific view.

Here, you can click on a photo to:

  • Rename photo
  • Assign photo to platforms
  • Assign photo to menu items
  • Edit photo
  • Delete photo

 

Bulk Update Photo Info

By selecting multiple photos, you can also bulk update platforms and menu item(s) photo assignment or photo deletion.

FAQs

  • Yes— You can select multiple menu items from the drop down when choosing Item assignment.

    Multiple Assignment Menu Photo

  • Otter will de-duplicate photos when adding photos to the photobank. This means, only 1 photo will be kept if a duplicate photo is found.

    NoteNOTE

    You don’t need multiple photos of the same item because you can assign a menu photo to multiple menu items.

  • No— At this time, the only filtering option is assigned/unassigned
