Overview
Publishing a menu in the Otter Dashboard gives you the ability to to unify and manage your menu(s) across all channels and delivery partners. This allows you to quickly make adjustments to your menu for select or all platforms— edited in one place.
Through the Otter Dashboard, you can make edits to your menu like:
- Add or delete menu items
- Price or tax adjustments
- Upload menu images
- Station routing
- Provide allergen & calorie information
- Create & assign menu item modifiers
Menu publishing in Otter Dashboard also allows you to view the status of your menu per location and/or channel. This alerts you to any publishing issues and guides you on how to resolve the issue.
Publishing a Menu
Once a menu has been created in the Otter Dashboard, you can publish the menu or edit and republish the menu(s) to reflect changes.
Creating a Menu in the Otter Dashboard
Before publishing a menu in the Otter Dashboard, a menu must be created. This can be done a few different ways:
After you have created or edited your existing menu(s), you can publish your menu by following the steps below:

Step 1
Click the [Publish] button.

Step 2
Select all locations & channels to publish the menu to.

Step 3
*Optional*Select Add note to leave an internal note for that menu publish event.
Will show in Menus > Activity.
This can be helpful when looking up and/or reverting back to an old menu version.

Step 4
Click [Publish] for the menu to be updated for selected locations & channels.

Step 5
Menu Publish status will show to ensure successful publishing or alert of any issues.
Menu Status
In the Otter Dashboard, you’ll be able to see the status of your menu. This allows you to quickly see if there are any issues, errors, or changes needed— or if your menu was successfully published.
The status of a menu can be seen at a glance in a few different places within the Otter Dashboard > Menus App. Check out more information about where to see the status of a menu below:

From the Menus overview page, you can see a status overview of all locations & menus.

When clicking into a specific menu, you can see the menu status of the selected menu listed at the top of the page.

In Progress | Publishing is currently in progress |
Publish failed | At least one platform had a publish error for the most recent publish attempt |
Unpublished menu | Menu was never published to at least one platform |
Unpublished changes | Changes have been made to the menu that have not been published |
Published | Menu successfully published to all platforms |
No status shown | Menu has no platforms associated with it |
Publish Status
While publishing a menu, you’ll be able to see the status of the menu publish in real-time and see a detailed view of any issues— allowing you to efficiently resolve any issues or confirm a successful publish.
After clicking [Publish] for a menu, you’ll be able to see the progression of the publishing event. You will see:
- Publishing progress bar showing overall status for all locations and channels
- Publishing status grouped by location and channel
- Breakdown of each individual publishing events

This view lists the locations where the menu is being published, with an overall progress bar next to each one.
Clicking the ^ next to the location will give a breakdown of channels for the location and the individual publish status for that channel.

Pending | In queue to be published |
Failed | At least one platform had a publish error for the most recent publish attempt |
In Progress | Menu is being published |
Published | Menu successfully published to all platforms |
Resolving Menu Publishing Issues
After a menu publishing event has been completed, you will see the publishing results shown for each location/channel.
To view more information or resolve any issues, click the [View issues] button.

To view more information or resolve any issues, click into the menu and click View issues > or View all > next to the status at the top of the page. From there, you’ll be able to dig into the issue deeper to resolve.

FAQs

Yes— To cancel a menu publishing event, click [Cancel publish]. This [Cancel publish] button will be available 30 minutes after one or more menus are In progress to publish.
Cancelling a Publish Event
When cancelling a menu publish event, the publish will be canceled for all locations and channels. Currently, there is not a feature to only cancel publishing for one or select few locations/channels.
- The menu status is checked every 10 seconds and updated accordingly.
