Shift4 (SkyTab) + Otter Integration Guide

Overview

Shift4 (SkyTab POS) + Otter integration takes all orders made through online and delivery platforms, and sends them to your Shift4 POS (via Otter) for more efficient operation. 

Integrating Shift4 with your Otter account, you're able to:

  • Manage and publish your menu(s) for multiple channels in one place
  • See a single view of your order queue from all platforms
  • Easily manage orders from different platforms
  • Eliminate manual entry of order data outside of your POS

 

Process Overview

In order to connect Shift4 to Otter, you need to:

  • Add Otter to your Shift4 account
  • Prepare your menu in Shift4
  • Finish set-up with an Otter specialist
  • Set up Auto-sync

Reach out to the other POS integration provider to remove integrations from all delivery partners. Keep in mind, they can't just be disconnected— they need to be removed or the delivery partners will not allow Otter to connect.

 


 

1. Adding Otter to Shift4

The first step to integrating your Otter account with Shift4 is to add Otter to your Shift4 account.

Follow the steps below to learn how.

Steps to add Otter to Shift4 account:

1 Go to Shift4 Admin Portal.
2 Click the Marketplace tab.

Find the Otter app.

Click [View Details].

4 Click [Install].

Fill out Restaurant Details and Contact Details.

Click [Submit].

After successful installation, copy the Location ID from the browser address bar.

 

NoteLocation ID Needed
This Location ID number will be needed later when your Otter specialist is helping you complete the integration process. Don't forgot to grab it & have it handy!

2. Prepare Menu

In Shift4 you'll need to prepare the menu that will be imported into Otter.

Keep the following in mind while preparing your menu in Shift4 to import into Otter.

  • Nested Modifiers
    Nested modifiers are not supported for Shift4 + Otter integration. Learn how to set up your menu when nested modifiers aren't supported here.
  • Multi-menus
    Shift4 does not accept multi-menus— only one menu can be supported.
     

After you prepare your menu to import, reach out to your Otter Specialist to finish your integration connection. Once your menu is imported into Otter, you can learn more about managing your menu here.

 


 

3. Set-up Integration with Specialist

Once your menu is prepared, contact your Otter Specialist or reach out to Otter Support to import your menu and finish setting up your integration. 

 


 

4. Auto-sync & Settings in Otter

Automatic Sync

Automated Menu Sync ensures your menus are always up to date across all available ordering channels without any manual effort.

When changes are made to your menu from your POS or Otter Dashboard, any updates are automatically synced and published to be reflected on every connected platform.

POS Settings in Otter Dashboard

When you make changes to your POS settings, the changes will need to be reflected in Otter as well to avoid order injection issues. The changes made in your POS can be updated in Otter within the POS Settings of the Otter Dashboard.

Available POS settings in the Otter Dashboard:

  • View all POS integration parameters set for each store
  • Update all POS channel settings for each store
  • Turn off/on POS injection per channel

FAQs

  • You can learn more about scheduled orders here.
  • Yes— the channel (like delivery partner name) will be included in the order details once injected into Shift4.
  • Tips collected for delivery partner platforms will be routed directly to the third party courier and will not surface in your Shift4 POS.

    Tips will be sent to Shift4 POS if the restaurant is using its own couriers (restaurant delivery) or when it is a pick-up order.
  • Your menu will update and sync with the Menu Sync feature toggled ON. This feature is designed to ensure that your menu remains updated without requiring manual intervention. It synchronizes your menu every 6 hours, making sure that any changes made are reflected in Otter and connected delivery platforms.

  • You set different pricing per fulfillment or channel using advanced pricing. Learn more about advanced pricing here
  • Sales tax is computed within Shift4 based on the tax rules that have previously been set up in Shift4.
