Otter POS Settings in Otter Dashboard

Overview

Do you need to set up your new Otter POS or need to make changes to existing settings? All of this can be done within the POS app in your Otter Dashboard.

The POS app houses different settings that can be configured by brand, location, and/or organization. This is the go-to place to set your preferred POS operations like fulfillment modes, service fees, terminal customizations, enable cash management, and so much more!

 


 

POS App Tabs

On the POS app landing page, the three tabs on the left side of the page can be used to configure POS settings: Brand, Location, and Settings.

  • Settings can be configured for specific brands.

POS App Settings

InfoOtter POS Settings Override
All of the settings can be set or overridden at the brand, location, or organization level. If an override is placed on a setting, the more specific setting will be set.

  • Location settings will override Brand and Organization settings
  • Brand settings will override Organization settings 

Fulfillment Mode

You have the ability to configure the POS settings for each fulfillment mode (pickup, delivery, dine-in, & drive thru) based on brand, location, or organization. Expand the section below to learn more about each Fulfillment Mode Setting.

Pickup / Delivery / Dine-in / Drive Thru Settings

  • Enable Overrides: Allow settings made at this level to override the organization, location, and/or brand.
  • Enable Fulfillment Mode: This makes this order fulfillment mode, or how an eater intends to receive the food, available on Otter POS. Learn more here: Order Fulfillment Modes.
  • Service Fee: Set a service fee for all orders.
  • Mandatory Information: Select what specific information is required when guests are placing a Pickup order. This setting is currently only available to new Otter POS customers. For existing Otter customers, this setting will be available soon!
  • Order Complete Trigger: Choose whether orders are auto marked as ready.

Devices

POS terminals and cash drawer settings can be found under [Devices] in the left-side navigation menu. Expand the sections below to learn more about the Terminal and Cash Drawer Settings for Otter POS.

Terminal Settings

Enable Overrides

Toogle ON to allow settings made at this level to override the organization, location, and/or brand.

Access

Pincode logout time: Set the number of minutes after which the cashier will be auto logged out and need to reenter their pin. Learn more here: Creating Employee Pin Codes

Customer Display



If you have a Dual Screen POS Terminal, you’ll have the option to update the customer-facing terminal screen with customized images. Two settings can be configured for the customer display:

Cart imagery: Upload an image that will appear to the right of the cart while an order is placed. We recommend a 600×600 px PNG image.

Idle Imagery: Upload a full-screen image that appear while no orders are being placed. We recommend a 1024×600 px PNG image.

Receipts

  • Show receipt screen: Choose whether to display or skip the receipt screen during checkout on the customer-facing display.
  • Print loyalty points collection QR code: Print QR codes on payment receipts, including those for orders placed via POS, Kiosk, and online ordering, with payments completed through POS.

Tipping

  • Cash tipping: Enables tipping on cash payments.
  • Tip configuration: By enabling this, you can customize the tip options that customers and cashiers have the ability to select from. If this is disabled, your POS terminal will default to 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%.
  • Hide "No Tip" option: Hide the “No tip” option on the tipping screen.
  • Display tip options after payment: By enabling this, the option for tip will be presented after a successful credit card authorization for the order amount.
    • After Payment: Allow your customer to add a tip on the receipt.

Item Notes

Enabling this exposes a "Notes" field to cashiers within the Otter POS menu items on the cart screen. These notes will be shown on items when sent to the kitchen.

 

Loyalty Program

  • Show on Cashier display before payment: This will show the loyalty signup/login experience on the cashier screen during checkout.
  • Show on Customer display before ordering: This will replace the idle imagery on the customer display with the loyalty signup/login experience.
  • Show on Customer display before payment: This will show the loyalty signup/login experience on the customer display during checkout.

Menu Layout

  • Number of menu item columns: By default, the same number of categories and items are shown when creating orders. If you have fewer categories, you can enable 3 columns to see more items in each category.
  • Menu item density: Control how many items are shown when creating orders.

Order Numbers

  • Type:
    • Default: Randomized number/letter combination
    • Sequential: Order numbers will populate in succession order (if using multiple POS devices must be part of a “mesh”— meaning the devices are connected to coordinate a shared sequence)
  • Length: Number of digits to use for the numeric part of the order numbers.
  • Roll-over time: Time of the day (in 'HH:MM' format) when the order numbers will restart. This only applies to 'sequential' order numbers.

Payment Methods

  • Default Setting: If no payment configurations are explicitly selected, the default is that all payment methods will be displayed on Otter POS
  • Payment Method Options: Otter POS accepts a variety of different payments depending on your POS configuration. You can go into the Otter Dashboard and configure which payment types are available during the Otter POS checkout process. The available payment method options include:
  • Enable Overrides: Check or toggle ON a payment method in the Payments section to allow that method to be available on the Otter POS terminal at a specific organization, location, and/or brand.

 

Cash Drawers Settings

Enable Overrides

Toggle ON to allow settings made at this level to override the organization, location, and/or brand.

Cash Management

The Cash Management settings give you the ability to manage cash transactions utilizing a cash drawer connected to the Otter POS, and enable a cash discount to automatically apply to all cash transactions.

  • Cash management: Enable this setting to allow the use of the Drawers app on your device (Cash management).
  • Enable cash discounts: Toggle on [Enable cash discounts] to set a discount amount for cash transactions.

Configuring Otter POS Settings

FAQs

  • Image size depends on what the image will be used for:
    • For the Idle image, we recommend a 1024×600 px PNG image.
    • For the Cart image, we recommend a 600×600 px PNG image.
  • Reach out to our support team or your Customer Success Manager for more information on our new hardware packages.
  • The POS app will only show for current Otter POS customers.

    If you're an Otter POS customer but do not see the POS app in the Otter Dashboard, reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Otter Support to enable this for you.
  • A popup window will appear on the Otter POS terminal or the direct orders pickup website and require the cashier or guest to fill out all required fields. The cashier or guest will not be able to proceed until they have entered all of the required information.
