  • Bluetooth Printers can be connected to an Otter device in two ways:

    • Bluetooth
    • USB (hardwired

The Bluetooth Receipt Printer will begin to print tickets once it's directly connected to an Otter Tablet, Otter POS Terminal, or a BYOD tablet that has the Otter app installed.

These printers are configured by our team and sent out directly to you to ensure the printer connects seamlessly with the Otter app when you're setting up the hardware.

    InfoMost Common Printer
Bluetooth Printers are the standard and most widely used printer by Otter customers.
  • Cloud Printers are also referred to as a “Hardwired Printer” because these printers require hardwiring (ethernet cable) to get online.

These printers are configured specifically to your restaurant's address and will begin printing as soon as the printer is set up. The Otter tablet and Otter app are completely separate from the Cloud Printer functionality.

Cloud Printers are a great option if you have printers very far from your tablet or desire to have multiple printers at one location.
  • Sticker Label Printers are a type of Bluetooth printer that connects to the Otter app similarly to a regular Bluetooth Receipt Printer.

The Sticker Label Printer only prints individual labels, per item, on an order, including the item’s modifiers. This printer does not print out full orders; it only prints out each label on an item level.

You can customize which menu items print stickers and which do not via the Menus app in the Otter Dashboard.
  • BYOD means "Bring Your Own Device."

You have the option to bring your own printer or tablet instead of purchasing one from Otter. However, we do have a specific list of compatible BYOD printers that will work with the Otter software.

Check out the section Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Printers to learn more about which devices are compatible with Otter.
  • Currently, Otter only provides and ships hardware (printers & tablets) for the United States and Canada.

All other countries must bring their own printer and Android tablet in order to use Otter software. For more information about Otter's "Bring Your Own Device" policy, please review the section Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Printers in this article.

Cloud Printers

Cloud Printers are commonly referred to as “Hardwired Printers” because they require hardwiring (ethernet) to get online. These printers are preconfigured by Otter specifically for your store's location and delivered directly to you. Orders will begin printing once the printer is connected to a power source and the internet. This a great printer option for customers who have printers very far from the tablets or no tablet at all.

Which Cloud Printer models does Otter offer?

Otter carries Epson TM-M30 NT or TM-T88vi Cloud Printer models.

Can I make my Cloud Printer wireless?

Yes, this is possible by using a TP-Link!

A TP-Link is a wireless extender that, once configured, can make your cloud printer wireless. This will only work with the cloud printers Otter has provided.

TP-Links need to be briefly connected to a router during set-up. Once set-up is complete, they can be disconnected and reconnected to a printer for wireless network access.

We offer step-by-step instructions for these devices to ensure seamless configuration: Connecting an Otter Cloud (Hardwired) Printer via TP-Link.

Please reach out to our Support Team if you would like to order a TP-Link from Otter.

While TP-Links are compatible with wireless hotspots, you’ll need to restart the TP-Link setup process every time you connect to a new one. For this reason, we recommend using a direct Ethernet connection instead of a TP-Link and hotspot with Otter printers.

Can I use an ethernet splitter?

Direct router/ethernet connection is the most reliable.

Splitters, switches, and extensions are secondary connections that can present intermittent connection issues or an inability to connect at all. We don’t recommend them unless absolutely necessary.

Bluetooth Printers

Bluetooth Printers are commonly referred to as "local printers" since they require proximity to a tablet connected to the internet to work effectively. We recommend printers be within 15 feet of the tablet to stay connected. The Bluetooth Printers connect directly through the Otter app on the tablet.

What Bluetooth Printers does Otter offer?

The models we offer depend on which printer type you need. We offer Bluetooth Receipt Printers and a Sticker Label Printer (Bluetooth Label Printer).
