Menu Upsells

Overview

Menu Upsells feature empowers restaurant owners and operators to curate a list of recommended upsells to display to eaters during their order checkout. This can help increase sales and promote items to eaters during their ordering process.

Creating Menu Upsell Groups

Menu items with attached Upsell modifier groups will display potential upsell menu items to the eater in the cart during the checkout process as Suggested items.

Follow the steps below to create an Upsell group.

  1	From the Otter Dashboard, select Apps > Menus.
  2	Select the menu you’d like to edit. Click the [Modifier groups] tab. Click [+Add modifier group].
  3	Type Name for modifier group. Select Upsell group under the Modifier group settings section.
  4	Choose items from Add items as modifiers drop-down to display as upsells.
  5	Under Items using this modifier group— select the menu items from the drop-down that you’d like the upsell group to display for.
  6	Select Assigned locations and Offered on platforms for where upsells will apply for. Note: Menu Upsells will only apply to Direct Order websites and Kiosk. Click [Save].
  7	Click [Publish] to publish menu updates. Select all locations and delivery channels you'd like to apply changes, then click [Publish menu].
  8	The Upsell group will display to eaters on selected platforms.

Upsell Item Must be Assigned to a Category
In order for a menu item to display as an upsell option, it must be assigned to a menu category.

Troubleshooting

• If a menu item that has been included in a menu upsell group isn’t displaying, double-check that the menu item is assigned to a menu category.

  To do so:

  • Go to the menu in the Otter Dashboard > Items tab.
  • Filter for modifier group Upsells and confirm if item(s) are assigned to a category.
  • If not, click on the item and select a category to assign the menu item to.
  • Click [Save] and republish the menu to desired locations and channels.

  

   

FAQs

• Yes— You can make changes to an Upsell modifier group by clicking on the group listed in the Modifier groups tab. Be sure to republish your menu after making edits to implement changes.

  

   

• No— this feature is included for Otter Direct Orders subscriptions.

• No— currently, Upsell items are unable to have modifiers or nested modifiers of their own.
