Overview
Once you’ve added Direct Orders to your Otter subscription and created a menu, you’ll be able to configure your online ordering settings for your restaurant’s ordering website. In the Otter Dashboard, you can edit storefront settings to set key aspects and parameters for your online ordering website experience.
In the Direct Order Settings, you can:
- Select and adjust fulfillment options
- Enable different payment methods
- Allow Scheduled orders
- Set up delivery services
- Set preferences for tips, split checks, and open tabs
Publishing a Storefront
Be sure to check and/or edit Direct Order Settings for a brand or location before publishing the storefront ordering website to ensure all specifications match your business needs and operational guidelines.
Configuring Online Order Settings
You can configure the settings for your online ordering website from the Direct Orders App in the Otter Dashboard.
You can adjust Online Order settings from an organization or location/store level.
- Organization level: Applies to all brands and locations
- Location/Store level: Applies to only that location within a brand
Follow the steps below to edit Direct Order settings.

Click [Save] to confirm settings.
Settings will apply to all brands.

Click [Save] to confirm settings.
Settings will apply to that location.
Store Level Override Settings
If settings established at the Organization level differ from what you’d like to set for a specific location, when editing at the Store level you’ll need to toggle Override settings to enable or disable the fulfillment option.
This will only override the setting for that location.
You will be able to configure settings for each Online Ordering fulfillment option— Pickup, delivery, and dine-in. Learn more about the settings for each option below.
Pickup Settings
This allows eaters to place a direct online order to pick up at your restaurant.

Pickup Orders
Toggle ON to allow eaters to place an order for pick up online. Toggle OFF to disable the pickup fulfillment option.
Payment Methods
Select to allow eaters to pay for online orders Online, In-person, or Both.
Toggle to enable or disable gift card payments for online orders.
For Online payment method, eaters will only be able to pay with a credit card. For In-person payment method, eaters will be able to pay with card or cash when picking up their order.
Tips
Toggle to enable or disable tips for pickup orders, and set tip amounts and default tip choice.
Toggle to enable or disable custom tips (allowing eaters to manually enter a tip amount).

Scheduling
Toggle to enable or disable scheduling an order for a future pickup. Set parameters for scheduled online orders.

Service Fee
Toggle to enable or disable Service fees. You can input a percentage Fee amount for all pickup fulfillment orders.
High Service Fees
Inputting a service fee is not required, but is a common practice. However, higher service fees may result in lower orders.
This service fee is calculated based on the subtotal and added as a line item during checkout. This will also show on the order receipt:
Minimum Order Amount
You can enter a minimum dollar amount an order has to meet to qualify for ordering pickup.
Minimum Order Not Required
Setting a minimum order amount is not required. If you do not wish to have a minimum order amount, just leave that field blank.
Delivery Settings
This allows eaters to place a direct online order for delivery at your restaurant.

Delivery Orders
Toggle ON to allow eaters to place an order for delivery online. Toggle OFF to disable the delivery fulfillment option for your direct website.
Payment Methods
Select to allow eaters to pay for online delivery orders Online, In-person— to allow both, check both options.
Toggle to enable or disable gift card payments for online orders.
Tips
Toggle to enable or disable tips for pickup orders, and set tip amounts and default tip choice.
Toggle to enable or disable custom tips (allowing eaters to manually enter a tip amount).
Delivery Area
Select Type for how you’d like the delivery area to be set from Driving Distance or Straight Line Distance.
- Driving Distance: Calculates distance by travel miles while driving. (Most common choice).
- Straight Line Distance: Measures distance between two points in a straight line on a flat map and doesn’t consider land surfaces or obstacles.
Enter Distance allowance for delivery range in Miles or Kilometers. Then set the Estimated delivery time range in minutes.
Fees— Delivery & Service Fee
Delivery Fee: You can set a delivery fee for all delivery direct orders. For this, you can select the distance range for the fee and the corresponding dollar amount fee. You can add multiple delivery fees for different distances.
Tax on Delivery Fee: For some areas tax delivery fees differently from food or service charges— this setting helps keep reporting and customer pricing clear. You can apply taxes that are specific to delivery fees.
Example: For deliveries within 0- 2 miles, the delivery fee is $2.00 and deliveries within 2- 4 miles have a delivery fee of $4.00. All delivery charges will be taxed at the applicable rate, if set up.
Service Fee: You can input a percentage Service Fee for all delivery orders.

Scheduling
Select to allow or disable scheduling an order for a future pickup. Set parameters for scheduled online orders.

Dine-in Settings
This allows eaters to place an order through QR codes that lead to an online ordering experience.

Dine-in Orders
Toggle ON to allow eaters to place an order using a QR code. Toggle OFF to disable the QR code option.
Payment Methods
Select to allow eaters to pay for online delivery orders Online, In-person— to allow both, check both options.
Toggle to enable or disable gift card payments for dine-in.
Tips
Toggle to enable or disable tips for pickup orders, and set tip amounts and default tip choice.
Toggle to enable or disable custom tips (allowing eaters to manually enter a tip amount).

Open Tab
Enable open tab allows eaters to create a tab, add items to the open tab, and eat before closing and paying for the order.
Require payment first means eaters will need to pay for their items as they order them. If they decide to order more items, they will need to open another tab.

Split Payments
Split payments allow the eaters to split the total bill at the end of the service between multiple people during checkout.
You can set an order minimum needed to qualify to split a bill and how many ways it can be split.

Table Number Tracking
If your restaurant utilizes tab numbers, you can toggle this feature ON to keep track of each dining party's order.

Auto Accept vs. Manual Accept
By default, orders coming in through the Online Ordering channel will be set to manual accept. Learn more on the benefits of auto accepting orders and how to enable this setting here.
If using manual accept to manage your Online Orders, any orders that are not accepted within 15 minutes will be cancelled to avoid confusion, long waits, and negative eater experiences.
