Default Location Assignment

Overview

The Default Location setting for Menus allows you to select all or some locations to automatically assign newly added menu items to. 

This can help streamline the process when adding menu items and takes out the step of manually picking the location(s) to assign a menu item— helping ensure menu items are assigned to the correct location by default.

The Default Location setting will only apply to newly created menu items. When a Default Location assignment is set, it will not apply to existing menu items.

 


 

Default Location Settings

The Default Location assignment setting can be found in the Menu Settings within the Otter Dashboard.

Follow the steps below to set Default Location assignment.

    1 From the Otter Dashboard, select Apps > Menus.

    Select the menu to update. 

    Click the gear icon in the top right corner to access Menu Settings.

    3 Within the Menu details tab, scroll to the New Items section.
    4 Click to edit (the pencil icon) Default location assignment.
    5 Select to automatically have new menu items assigned to:
    • All locations
    • No locations
    • Specific locations (by checking location)
    6 Click [Update] to confirm location assignment selections.

    Updated Default Location assignment will show. 

    Click [Save] to apply setting changes.

By default, the selection for the Default Location setting will be to assign new menu items to All locations. If you do not want all new menu items to automatically be assigned to all locations, you will need to update this Menu setting to No locations or Select locations.

 


 

Editing New Item Assigned Location(s)

After setting the Default Location assignment, when going to add a new menu item, you should see the default locations appear under the Assigned locations section. 

You can edit this section, if needed, by:

  • Scroll to Assigned locations.
  • Click Edit details.
  • Check or uncheck desired location(s) for assignment.
  • Click [Done] to save selections.

 


 

FAQs

  • Yes— If your Default Location is set to no locations, you can still create new menu items. However, you will need to manually assign a location to the menu item before it can be published for availability.
